40 Over 40 Spotlight: Andrea on Resilience, Wisdom, and Embracing Her Power

You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
— Eleanor Roosevelt

Q. Describe yourself in 3-4 words.

A. Capable, authentic, wife, mother

Q. Why was joining the 40 Project important to you?

I joined this project as a way of acknowledging the personal growth I have experienced in my life thus far, especially the last decade. 40 over 40 was a tangible experience to celebrate and honor my 40th birthday. I look forward to what this next decade will bring.

Q. What has overcoming hardships taught you?

A. Overcoming hardships has taught me, I am strong, capable, and resilient. I know I can accomplish anything if I am willing to do the work.

Q. What advice would you give to younger women?

My advice to younger women can best be summed up in two of my favorite quotes. “Do the thing and you will have the power.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

Q. Why should more women over 40 be more visible in their communities & media?

I believe it is vital for women over 40 to be visible in their communities and in the media. Women in this stage of life have so much to offer others. Women over 40 are confident, because they have the life experience and skills to support that confidence. Women can share their stories and lived experiences as a way to guide, teach and encourage the next generation of women helping to light their path.
