Why was it important for you to join The 40 Project?
Turning 50! For a woman is a life changing event be it both emotional and physical. So I wanted to be able to express my inner self through the artistic eye of a fellow artist. Showing that 50 is a time of reflection. As well as a time of celebration for new found confidence. A time for embracing new opportunities and self-awareness . Age is just a number, it's all about self-acceptance.
What perspective have you gained by overcoming hardships?
With every obstacle in life I have found an opportunity to not only grow and learn but to share my journey with others to better understand and help them on their own path. Without obstacles I would not be able to truly connect with so many people and say I understand, I’ve been there. Through each life experience I’ve been able to connect with people. I thank the lord above for seeing me through every obstacle and bump in the road and for giving me the strength, patience and courage to overcome and appreciate each negative experience. It’s all about perspective and being able to flip the tables. Finding the positives in each situation to the betterment of your life and others.
What advice would you give to another woman or to your past self?
Allow yourself grace. You are a beautiful work in progress. The maker's hands are upon you like clay on the potter's wheel. Know that with each fold and movement, each slide of his hand you are being formed. A unique and powerful piece.. Each imperfection is a mark of beauty.
Why should more women over 40 celebrate themselves and be seen more in their communities?
Women should celebrate themselves regardless of age. However, women in their 40s and beyond should be seen as strong and capable bodies. Resilient and full of wisdom. At this age we have collected valuable information and insights and have the ability to make a lasting impact on the world and community. We should embrace and embody each other’s energy. Society often focuses on youth but there is much to be said about the older woman who now has found an incredible sense of awareness. And with this comes a radiance. A beauty that dives deeper than the flesh and can never be denied.
